Long-standing Devizes retailer – and Health Stores UK member – The Healthy Life has gone up for sale, offering a “exciting opportunity” to develop and further grow this local health food institution.
Located on a prime shopping street in the popular market town, The Healthy Life is spread across four floors, including ground floor retail space – selling a wide range of supplements, personal care, food, home care, refills and gifts – treatment rooms, and a second floor space that is used as pop-up store during the Christmas period (a “healthy income generator and much loved by customers”). There is also a heavily invested in online store bundled with the sale.
The Healthy Life’s current owner, Justina Pettifer, took over the health food and lifestyle business in 2009. “I’d planned on having it for eight years, but here I am 14 years on! I suppose it’s just one those businesses that you love so much that it becomes a vocation. But I’ve taken the decision now to semi-retire, do some travelling and spend more time with my family”.
She says the business would offer a “exciting opportunity” for an ambitious, forward-thinking individual or couple. “The Healthy Life is a long established name in a really bustling town. It’s such an integral part of the community here, both in terms of supporting health and the local business community. For example, we’re part of something called Indie Devizes, which local retail businesses formed in the early part of pandemic to keep the town’s profile up, and support other Indies. I’m proud of that and I’d really love to see some continuation of those community values, and natural health ethos, that we’ve built up.
“As well as being a profitable, established business, there is just so much potential. The store itself could be expanded and developed. There is enough space to add a cafe, with the right planning. And for a modern-minded acquirer the online store offers amazing potential to reach a much bigger audience, especially if it’s boosted by some savvy social media activity. The whole business is just ripe for multi-use.
