The countdown to this year’s Colour Friday promotion, the Black Friday alternative that encourages people to “shop though their values”, has begun.
The event which takes place on 29 November is now in its fourth year and is urging indie retailers to get involved again.
The organiser – Holly & Co – has created a Colour Friday guide containing eye-opening statistics to use on social media, free campaign artwork to download and distribute, and creative ways to get involved with this year’s promotion.
Consumers spend £13.3 billion during Black Friday according to Mintel, with a huge proportion of that spend going to high street giants and super-brands. But nearly half of UK shoppers say they rarely or never used their Black Friday half purchases and more than half expressed concern about the negative environmental impact of over consumption during the sale period (source: Norvuna).
The Colour Friday campaign says that even if just a small percentage of the Black Friday spend could be diverted to independent retail businesses it would give a huge boost to local high streets.
