Indies urged to get behind Small Business Saturday event

Health store retailers are being urged to join other indie stores in spreading the word about Small Business Saturday, which celebrates the contribution of small UK businesses to their communities.

The national event, run by Small Business Britain and now in its twelfth year, takes place in December and has seen billions of pounds spent with small businesses on the day throughout that time.

Small businesses are being provided with range of free resources for the event, including a toolkit with campaign overviews, content ideas, marketing assets including logos, posters, and social media materials.

Michelle Ovens CBE, director of Small Business Saturday UK, said: “Small Business Saturday is all about supporting and celebrating the UK’s fantastic entrepreneurs and the amazing contribution they make to local communities.

“After a particularly challenging period for small business owners, public support can make all the difference. I encourage everyone to join us in celebrating small businesses, not just on the day but throughout the year.”

Andrew Goodacre, CEO of Health Stores UK partner organisation Bira, said:  “Events like Small Business Saturday are crucial for independent retailers that deserve to be celebrated for all they do within their communities. Much like Bira’s Love Your High Street Week, it’s great to see the enthusiasm for these events. I’d urge any indie that can to get involved!”

The event, backed by global banking firm and Bira service partner American Express, takes place on 7 December and also doubles as the closing date for entries to AMEX’s Champion Small initiative, with 10 high street businesses selected to receive a share of a £100,000 grant. The expert judging panel, which includes Andrew Goodacre, will select winners based on customer reviews, product innovation, community impact and how the grant will positively benefit their business.
