The team at Health Stores UK member Amaranth have been celebrating their Best Independent Retailer award at last week’s NOPEX event in London.
Store founder and owner, Joanne Hill, says that the team “couldn’t be more delighted”.
She said: “For me, this is the highest achievement for an independent in our industry — the award I’ve always aspired to since opening the store 12 years ago. We first won the Best Independent Retailer at NOPE back in 2015, and to win again exactly 10 years later means the world to us. Over the past decade, we’ve grown as a team, invested in our knowledge, continued to seek out exciting new products, and found fresh ways to support and connect with our customers.
“But it hasn’t been without challenges, from a flood, to Covid, to the opening (and closing) of a second store – so to still be here, stronger than ever, with the recognition of this award makes us incredibly happy.

Earlier at this year’s NOPEX event, Joanne took part in a retailer panel discussion, hosted by Health Stores UK, in which she explained how she had made Amaranth a ‘destination’ retailer and how that had been critical to the business’s success. “We’ve known for a long time that you have to do much more than just open your doors and expect people to come in. So, we’ve added treatment rooms, we do functional testing and create lots of customer appointments – so, come rain or shine, we know people will come through the door. It really makes a difference – not least because we’ll obviously get product sales off the back of the consultations. The consultations and treatments are not our biggest source of revenue, but they really help build loyalty and strengthen relationships.”
